Summary:
Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care of patients undergoing surgical intervention, pain injections, and diagnostic procedures.
The R.
N.
is directly responsible to the PACU Assistant Director of Nursing.
The R.
N.
provides assessment, patient surveillance and timely administration of physicians orders to prepare patients for procedures.
Provides continuous patient surveillance for early recognition and immediate emergency treatment of any medical or surgical complication that may arise.
Determines that the patient is suitable for discharge.
Provides patient and family member with an additional opportunity for education and review of the post op instructions.
Calls the patient on the first working post op day to check on post op progress.
Qualifications:
Graduate of accredited school of nursing required Current state licensure required Experience in peri-anesthesia or critical care area preferred Will be ACLS Certified Will be PALS Certified Will be BLS Certified Will have a certificate of course completion in Moderation Sedation MENTAL DEMANDS:
Require constant and frequent judgment and response; occasionally in response to disasters or emergencies, actual events or drills.
Require language skills adequate for high-level written and interpersonal communication in American English.
Planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating actions related to patient care; involves a variety of complicated duties and some independent actions in adapting procedures to specific situations; awareness to perform duties according to procedures, but alert to identify needed changes; requires continuous mental effort for dealing with potentially the most difficult situations and for the problem solving; ability to cooperate with others, take orders, follow directions precisely and demonstrate initiative; possess good communication skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Require high-level visual and auditory acuity for timely response and patient care assessment activities.
Ability to move quickly in response to physician and patient needs, to stand for long periods, occasional overhead and low reaching, and to exert force of up to 50 lbs.

Work involves standing up to 12 hours per day, lifting, bending, reaching, squatting, walking, twisting, pushing, pulling, listening, visualization, distinguishing colors, use hands for grasping, manipulation, speed work, piecework, and dexterity, repetitive movements of right and left feet, exposure to dust, fumes, and gases, performing and assisting in invasive surgical and diagnostic procedures, collecting and handling body substance specimens, suctioning tracheal secretions, perform oral procedures, operate, handle and clean instruments, object, and equipment used in procedures contaminated with body substances.
Handle soiled linen, clean soiled surfaces contaminated with body substances, bag and transport infectious waste, irrigate tubings and cavities.
Assist patients in arising from wheelchair, stretcher, pushing wheelchair or stretcher.
