The primary contribution of the Design Engineer, Advanced Manufacturing includes product design for manufacturability and implementation of process improvements and cost reductions.
This position is charged with providing and maintaining a capable process to provide the lowest total product cost focusing on automated processes while delivering consistent high quality product.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProduct & component development for new and existing products/components, as needed to:
Use CAD to convert ideas to models and plans.
Ability to use 2D & 3D software Perform dimensional stack up analysis Perform dimensional analysis on parts/components Construct and test prototypes and designs Create, review and critique product designs for cost and manufacturing Specify requirements for manufacturing equipment Solicit quotations, qualify suppliers, and select equipment vendors Act as liaison between Design and Manufacturing.
Work issues to cost, capacity, and timing of introduction Pilot and debug manufacturing processes for production based environments Recommend physical changes to manufacturing locations for appropriate equipment installation Perform relevant engineering considerations/exercises inclusive of the following:
Make/Buy analysis and capacity evaluations Product value analysis.
Implement projects to reduce total costs Propose, evaluate, and implement alternate processes for quality improvements, cost reductions, and capacity increases Troubleshoot process problems Additional duties to include but not be limited to:
Provide input to various manufacturing locations on Design For Manufacturability Broad additional Manufacturing Engineering responsibilities may be required as dictated by AME project load Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering Strong design experience using 3D solid modeling software, which includes design, simulation, testing, and creating drawings (Solidworks or Creo preferred) 3
years of experience in manufacturing engineering with focus on automation Hand on experience with mechanical, pneumatic, electrical components Knowledge and experience using plant/facility design/layout software Designed, assembled, and test ran the newly designed fixture, tooling, or equipment Occasional travel up to 15% between US and Mexico _Newell Brands (NASDAQ:
